Liposuction and Fat Grafting Solutions

Fat grafting procedure involves removal of patient’s own fat and re-implantation it where needed.

Fat is typically extracted from abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, and injected into breast, face or any other area requiring attention. When used as a facial filler, fat grafting can improve the folds, wrinkles and sunken areas of the face, and add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Fat grafting is also commonly used in buttocks augmentation.

Plastic surgeons have transplanted fat to the breast since 1895 but the results have been variable depending on the technique used, the surgeon, and the individual patient. It is possible to transfer body fat to the breasts to create a completely natural augmentation that has every indication of being permanent. Fat grafting to the breasts can also be used as an alternative to implants for augmentation, to achieve the best aesthetic breast reconstruction result after mastectomy, and to master skin edges or rippling of existing implants.

Fat grafting to the breast consists of two procedures performed on the same day: first, harvesting the fat and second, placement of the fat into the breasts. First, a substantial amount of fat is removed manually with a harvesting cannula connected to a small syringe. The fragile fatty tissue must be harvested slowly and gently. Then, the harvested fat is specially processed via centrifugation to separate out the unwanted components (blood, oil, water). The fat is then placed into the breast not only so that it will create an aesthetic, natural appearance, but also so that the newly transplanted fat has a chance to survive.

Fat transfer to the breasts has many advantages over implants. Fat is a completely natural substance that comes from your own bod, fat can be used to enhance, sculpture and shape the breast. There are few minimal incisions with this procedure, which reduces the possibility of scarring. Although breast augmentation using the fat grafting technique takes much longer than traditional breast augmentation.

As with any breast procedure, calcifications and lumps can occur. Breast studies, including physical examination and mammograms, are used to monitor every patient diligently. However, there is no evidence that fat transfer to the breast is less safe than any other breast surgery. Large studies have begun over the last few years to study fat grafting to the breast.
